Hi all people here, The problem mentioned in title is happening on my laptop, which is a Dell Precision M with Windows 7 Pro 64bit preinstalled. My laptop is still in warranty, but the problem i face is not hardware related. The first incident happened recently, when i inserted the sd card of my camera to get its contents the same way i used to do it always. Instead of the usual auto-play dialog, Windows prompted me to format the card, before i can use it. However, the sd card was ok, having all of its contents in tact i checked it back in my camera.

Later on, investigating this incident, i realized that all of my usb sticks and sd cards, if they are formatted to fat32, can not be recognized by Windows 7 any more.. When i try to connect a fat32 formatted device, Windows 7 prompts me to format it: If i proceed to format it, i get this in my face: Windows 7 stubbornly refuses to recognize ANY fat32 device and also can not format it in fat32 or exFAT.

The same time where a fat32 device is attached, if i open a cmd console and make a check disk chkdsk , it appears to be ok! Crazy things.. Also, if i enable the attached fat32 device to a guest operating system, it works fine! As i mention above, if i enable a fat32 usb stick in a guest OS within hosted by Windows 7, it works fine.

In Safe Mode the problem is the same. After a Clean Boot via msconfig, the problem is the same. I have not made any changes to my system. Only regular windows updates, and so, i'm suspecting someone of them to be the cause of this problem. I can't imagine something else.. I consider it's not possible to be some kind of malware infection.

I am very careful on this matter. However, due to this strange behavior and for the peace of my mind, i performed full scans with three different programs: 1. Windows Defender, 2. No any detections.. I have also an external usb hdd 2TB for regular system backups, which works fine. However, it is formatted to ntfs file system. Unfortunately, i haven't a spare external usb hdd to try to format it in fat32 or exFAT, to see what will happen.

In general, i can say that my system works fine and does not suffer of any other known.. As a complement of my description, i have created also a screen captured video, to show you this problem in action. Thanks in advance for any responses and a possible solution. I have the same question Report abuse. Details required :. Cancel Submit. No any help so far.. Thanks for your feedback. How satisfied are you with this reply?
